I had the opportunity to watch Senator Orrin Hatch from Utah speak to Glenn Beck regarding his appoval of Timothy Geithner as our new Treasury Secretary. It was indeed discouraging to watch him put up a barely feeble argument to contradict Beck's assertations that Geithner was acting in a dishonest manner regarding his federal tax problems. Hatch's sheepish demeanor and facial expressions betrayed his words.
Was it possible that this Senator could publicly pronounce that he felt that Geithner's knowledge and skill regarding finances made his "mistakes" meaningless factors in his decision to support his nomination? Yes it is possible. He did pronounce it.
This is good! It is a new form of transparency. Tell it like it is and let the people get used to it.
We are seeing this new type of transparency more everyday. Place bans on lobbying activity - but get nominees waivered at the same time.
I am relieved that the new administration is bringing to fruition its pledge for transparency. I'm just disturbed by what is on the other side of the glass!
